Reviews for Apple Macbook Air Superdrive - ZML - MC684ZM/A (Electronics) At the time I write this, there are two different assessments of the Superdrive and both are poor. I trust lots of their statements, however I respectfully disagree with their overall evaluation of the Superdrive.
Let's begin with construct quality. The Superdrive is encased in the identical sturdy aluminum that encases your Macbook Air. (This also makes the Superdrive a great in shape, asthetically, for the Air.) The backside of the Superdrive is black plastic with a thin ring of rubber to stop the pressure from sliding around your personal computer. This plastic does not really feel low-cost or flimsy to me; I cannot imagine it ever being damaged until the Superdrive is subjected to ordinary trauma, like dropping on a bothersome flooring from 5' up.
In contrast, most different exterior DVD burners I've used or researched are completely encased in plastic and feel just a little flimsy. The pop-out disc trays that differents have are plastic and a little wobbly.
The negative evaluations appropriately point out that the Superdrive's cord is brief, no longer detachable, and not user-replaceable. So, you have to take a little bit of extra care as not to harm the cord. I do not mind the short length, though. My Air take a seats on a Rain mStand, roughly 6" off the highest of my desk.

Over all a excellent force if all you have got are macbook's. But if you need a extra suitable power go discover a established usb one.

It has an inexpensive, plastic really feel. The USB cable is brief and stuck, now not removable or retractable, making it difficult to store for commute with out harmful it. It's operation is noisy and vibrates my whole desk. I would predict the instrument to work with other laptops (at least Apple ones) instead of the air and mini but it surely would not. I would also predict the software to be updated with new technologies like Bluray but it surely's no longer. Don't get me incorrect, I LOVE my MBAir!! And I do like that this drive is USB powered. I would merely ask that Apple finish the job by way of pairing it with one thing equally as impressive within the superdrive.
